Escape!
In 1997, 14 Cubans fled for Florida traveling on a stolen boat and carrying what little provisions they could gather. After two days, the group made it to tiny coral outcroppings known as "Dog Rocks." For the next two weeks, they struggled to survive. Two adults and two children died before the group was finally spotted and rescued.
11:00AM
Escape!
August 1949. 16 men parachuted into Mann Gulch, Montana, to fight a forest fire. Only three left alive. A mixture of heat, wind patterns, and atmospheric conditions caused a "blow-up," and the resulting fireball chased the men in a race they couldn't win. The lessons learned in Mann Gulch led to new, scientifically-based methods.
12:00PM
Escape!
Robert Burns, a shell-shocked WWI vet, was shackled to a Georgia chain gang for a petty robbery. Dodging armed guards and bloodhounds, he made a daring escape. A fugitive for seven years, he built a new life in Chicago--until his vengeful wife betrayed him. Against all odds, he escaped again, then embarked on a crusade to expose the chain gang's atrocities. While on the run, he wrote a best-selling book and worked on an Oscar-nominated film...then was recaptured three weeks after the film's release.
